About zach:
Zachary Thomas Lewis, AKA Zach Attack the Conqueror, is the five-year-old son of Bro Daniel and Sis Bridget Lewis. He is the youngest son and the third of four siblings. They call Norfolk VA home and are part of East Coast Gospel Lighthouse where his grandfather, “Pop”, is pastor.
Zachary is loyal, very intelligent, and feisty! He is loyal to his buddies at church and his brothers at home. He’s even willing to stand up to his dad when his brothers are in trouble. He is quick to remind his dad to be merciful and that his brothers are just kids. He is smart and very articulate. One time in the hospital he had just received Ativan and did not like it at all. He asked his dad what he had let them do to his brain. He said that it felt like he was in a deep cavern, flat as a pancake and far away, and that he couldn’t speak properly. He is also feisty; he doesn’t seem to have any “back down” in him.
Prior to August of last year Zach was an incredibly active, energetic boy. He loved to play and especially outside, usually heavily accessorized, and in costume and enjoying whatever adventure his imagination would allow. He is a most adventurous boy!
In August 2021 his world and that of his family changed abruptly. In a routine doctor’s office visit he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He went from the doctor’s office to the hospital where they immediately started treatment for this terrible disease. A couple weeks later they found out that his AML was high risk and that he would have to undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).

He went from the doctor’s office to the hospital where they immediately started treatment for this terrible disease. A couple weeks later they found out that his AML was high risk and that he would have to undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).
Before the Bone Marrow Transplant Zach went through three rounds of aggressive chemotherapy over the next three months. Almost the entire time was spent in Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, VA.
Through all that Zach has kept an amazingly positive attitude. He endured the pain, nausea, hair loss like a champion. On his good days he played, on the bad days he slept. In the hard times when his temper got the best of him, he repented quickly and recovered well. Through all of this he would give a thumbs up when ask how he felt.
The Bone Marrow Transplant could not be done in Norfolk. Bro Daniel and Sis Bridget chose to take Zach to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for the BMT. On November 29th Zach’s family including his cousin Kristen and his grandparents, Bro Stephen, and Sis Lynn Lewis, traveled in caravan to Cincinnati. They will live in the parsonage of Gospel Assembly Church in Cincinnati until Zach is well enough to go home.
Zach went into Cincinnati Children’s Hospital on December 9th. He received aggressive pre-transplant chemotherapy over the next few weeks and received his Bone Marrow Transplant on December 29th. As of today, he is on day +26. Shortly after he received the BMT he and his dad were diagnosed with COVID-19. Bro Daniel is has recovered, but COVID has slowed Zach’s overall recovery. As a result of the latest treatment, he has lost his hair again, has mucositis (which causes sores in his mouth, throat, and stomach), battles nausea, headaches, and constant fatigue. Currently he is in the thick of this fight.
Through everything he has endure over the last five months he hasn’t lost his smile, can always say “I love you” and has expressed that he knows God is holding him. In fact, one evening he woke up having difficulty breathing. He initially expressed the fear he might be dying. However, he was able to catch his breath and then reassure his dad he was in good hands. “God is watching over me,” he said, the fear he had experienced moments before quickly conquered.
Isa 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” From Sis Bridget Lewis’s testimony circa August 2021.
